Grosse-Île

Visit the impressive island located in the St-Lawrence River off Montmagny. From 1832 to 1937, it served as a quarantine station for the port of Quebec, the main gateway to Canada for immigrants until the First World War. In 1847 the site of a tragedy when more than 7500 immigrants, for the most part Irish, fell victim to typhus.
